These double-terminated quartz crystals, sometimes referred to as Middleville Diamonds, get their name from the specific location where they are found, Herkimer, New York. The "diamond" portion of their name comes from their high clarity as naturally faceting. The formation process of little ones began forming around 500 million years ago. Silicon dioxide and iron sulfides began to form base rock consisting of dolomite and calcite. Increasing temperatures allowed these crystals to grow very slowly, the reason behind such high-quality specimens!
