Bulgaria has been producing some absolutely extraordinary specimens over the past few years. Here is a great example of a multi-mineral specimen from these area of the world, featuring iron pyrite, quartz, and sphalerite.

Weight: 3.6 oz
Pyrite, or Fool's Gold, is a wildly popular simple cubic iron sulfide that is commonly referred to as Fool's Gold. It achieved this nickname for obvious reasons. Its name is derived from the Greek phrase pyrites lithos translating to the stone which strikes fire. Pyrite is found all over the world in quartz veins, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. It has even been found to replace minerals in fossil specimens such as gastropods and trilobites. This mineral has had many uses in the past. It has been used as a source of ignition in firearms and fire starters. It is currently used in the manufacture of paper and lithium batteries.
Pyrite is considered both a stone of luck and protection. It promotes good health and emotional wellbeing.
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral on Earth accounting for around 12% of the Earth's crust. Its name is derived from the German word "quarz" meaning hard. Quartz can form in trigonal or hexagonal crystal systems depending on the temperature during formation. Crystallized quartz ideally forms a six-sided crystal terminating with six-sided pyramids. The majority of quartz forms from molten magma. The largest quartz crystal ever found was located near Itapore, Goiaz, Brazil. It measured over 23 feet long and weighed 88,000 pounds.
Clear Quartz is the master healer of all minerals. Quartz is used to program and amplify the intentions and energies you set forth. It is also paired with other minerals to magnify their properties.
Sphalerite is a zinc sulfide mineral and is considered the world's most important ore of zinc. It gets its name from the Greek word sphalerous, meaning deceiving or treacherous. This is because it can often be difficult to identify this mineral by eyesight alone. It can contain up to 25% iron, making this mineral very dense and heavy in the hand.
