Vera Cruz Amethyst is a unique variety of amethyst that is mined in Vera Cruz, Mexico. These species are highly sought after for their incredible luster and clarity. They come in a very wide range of purple hues, everything from soft lavenders to deep purple. It is not uncommon for specimens from this location to contain phantoms and enhydros which are pockets of water with air bubbles. Different from many of our Vera Cruz specimens, this piece contains dozens of smaller amethyst crystals while the matrix of the specimen is coated in a beautiful druzy base.

Amethyst is arguably the most popular mineral known to man. Many people are familiar with the beauty of its purple hues. Amethyst is a variation of quartz that contains trace amounts of iron. When the mineral is exposed to radioactive gamma rays, it is irradiated, producing the purple color we know and love. The saturation of the amethyst depends on the amount of iron present.

Amethyst is a near-perfect health stone. It is used for relieving nightmares and insomnia. It enhances focus in both meditation and protection from psychic attacks. Amethyst is often used to help soothe the nervous system.
