Here is an absolutely gorgeous specimen of barite recently found in Morocco. These have been gobbled up by the public as they have a very lustrous dark crystals. However, they are very fragile, and should be considered when handling.

Barite is a widely collected mineral popular amongst many. Similarly to minerals, such as fluoride and calcite, barite as found in a wide range of colors and locations, making it an exceptional mineral to collect. The word barite is derived from the agent Greek word barús, meaning “heavy”. It is often associated with areas of high lead/zinc content, in larger, tabular crystals.
