Black Onyx is a variety of silicate minerals similar to agate. The primary difference is the formation of the chalcedony bands. Agates show curved banding while onyx shows parallel banding. The word onyx comes from the ancient Greek word "ὄνυξ" meaning claw. The uses of onyx for jewelry, tools, and art can be traced back almost 5000 years.
Black Onyx is a stronghold in increasing self-determination. It is a powerful stone in both its grounding and protection abilities. Black onyx is great for absorbing and transforming negative energy.
