Dogtooth Calcite gets its name from its unique crystal structure. This growth pattern is known as scalenohedral. As you can see from the photos, the shape of these crystals closely resembles canine teeth, hence the tradename. Mexico is one of the world's top producers of Dogtooth Calcite, with many specimens being found in caves with high water levels. This is a classic specimen from a classic location perfect for any collection!
