Elephant Ear Selenite is a specific formation of gypsum "petals" that contains inclusions of sand granules. These specimens closely resemble some of the highly sought-after gypsum roses found across the United States and Canada. This is a lovely species that displays nicely without a stand.

It has been used for sculpture work during Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, and Medieval Europe. Its name comes from the Greek word γύψος (gypsos). Crystallized gypsum is collected for its beautiful flattered, transparent, often twinned crystals. Many specimens also exhibit wonderful fluorescence and phosphorescence properties.
