Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral that comes in a wide variety of pink and red hues. The name Rhodochrosite comes from the Greek rhodos, meaning rose, and khros, meaning color. It is rare to find this mineral if well-formed crystals, the best coming from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, the United States, and South Africa. These higher-quality specimens can easily hold a five-figure price tag for serious collectors. This mineral can be produced as a byproduct in silver mines. Many love all grades of rhodochrosite for its deep red gems or its light pink banding. It is also known as Inca Rose (Rosa del Inca or Rosinca), as the Incas believed Rhodochrosite was the blood of their ancestral rulers turned to stone.
Rhodochrosite is known as the Stone of the Compassionate Heart. Many associate it with selfless love. It soothes the heart and comforts the soul. Rhodochrosite emits some of the softest, most tender energy out there.
