Tremolite is part of a group of silicate minerals that forms in sediments rich in dolomite and quartz. Pure tremolite is a creamy white but will change to a green color depending on the content of iron present. Nephrite jade is actually just a green variety of tremolite. Unfortunately, the fibrous form of this mineral has been classified as one of the six recognized forms of asbestos. At high environmental temperatures, this mineral will convert to another very sought-after mineral, diopside.
