Orpiment is a deep-colored, orange-yellow arsenic sulfide mineral. It is commonly found in volcanic fumaroles, low temperature hydrothermal veins, and hot springs. The mineral is formed by sublimation and a byproduct of the decay of another arsenic sulfide mineral, realgar. Orpiment gets its name from the Latin word auripigmentum because of its bright yellow color.
