Here is another great example of smoky quartz. All three quartz points contain various hues of gray/brown. The points of this specimen look as if they are dancing with each other. It would serve as a great addition to any collection.
Smoky Quartz is a brown/gray/yellow variety of quartz that contains aluminum impurities that are naturally irradiated by the Earth. This is the same process that occurs to form amethyst, but with a different metal. Its name is derived from the German word "quarz" meaning hard. Quartz can form in trigonal or hexagonal crystal systems depending on the temperature during formation. Crystallized quartz ideally forms a six-sided crystal terminating with six-sided pyramids. During the Victorian Period, smoky quartz found in Ireland was used in the jewelry worn by those in mourning.
Smoky Quartz assists in dispelling fear. It lifts depression by bringing an emotional calm and a sense of level-headedness.
